How To Convert CGPA/DGPA to Marks For Army, Navy & IAF

Students who want to pursue their career in Army, Navy, and IAF and candidates appearing for the TGC examination know the importance of having good marks in their academics. However, some people are still unaware of how the grades are converted into CGPA/DGPA to get quality in TGC.

TGC stands for the Technical Grade Course, and it is a kind of entry examination through which engineering students (only men) can join the Indian Army. Every B. Tech runs on the structure for every semester. But when it comes to applying for Army, Navy, or IAF, students must know their actual grades and not CGPA.

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average that shows the average of all the subject’s grade points for a semester or whole. The main confusion is whether to fill the grade for a particular semester or all the semesters altogether. So here, we will teach how students can convert CGPA/DGPA to marks while applying for Army or other exams.

How You Can Convert CGPA To Marks

1. If you are in the Ist Semester:

Total Marks = CGPA obtained X 9.5

For example you scored 8.55, then 9.42 X 9.5 = 80.54

2. If you are in the IIst Semester,

Total Marks = CGPA obtained X 9.5

3. And if you are in the IIIst Semester,

Total Marks = CGPA obtained X 9.5

CGPA to Equivalent Percentage

1. In 4 point Credit system, the process to get total marks is

CGPA X 18+20 = Equivalent Percentage

For example, If CGPA is 3.5, then the equivalent percentage is : 3.5* 18+20 = 83%

2. And for 10- a point grading system, the process is: CGPA * 9.3

So, if you have scored 8 CGPA, the marks obtained will be= 8.09*9.3, i.e., 74.4.
