Do you know who was the first Woman Air Marshal in India? Air Marshal Dr Padma Bandopadhyay (Retd.) is the first Air Marshal in India. Air Marshal Padma Bandopadhyay, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, PHS (born 4 November 1944) is a decorated former flight surgeon in the Indian Air Force. She was the first woman to be promoted to the rank of Air Marshal in the Indian Air Force. She is the second woman in the Indian Armed Forces to be promoted to a three-star rank, after Surgeon Vice Admiral Punita Arora.
Air Marshal Padmavathy Bandopadhyay Awarded Padma Shri
On 8th November (Monday) received the Padma Shri award, the fourth-highest civilian honor of the country, in the field of medicine. Post retirement, she continues to serve people as a civilian now.
President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Padma Awards in the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are among the attendees.

The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honors of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day. 119 Padma Awards were presented by President this year (2021). The award seeks to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved. The Awards are given in three categories:
