You will develop the skills you need to become a good officer, and you will also have the chance to learn what it means to be an Air Force Officer. The Air Force Academy is the premier institution for developing gentleman-like officers that India offers. The training is highly technical and rigorous but focuses on the overall development of students in both mind and spirit. No matter what branch or position they hold with the Air Force, graduates will surely get a high level of understanding and appreciation for the service as a whole.

The engaging curriculum comprises various projects, case studies, on-the-job training, presentations, debates, book reviews, guest lectures, and cultural activities. On the other hand, these activities ensure that each participant gets fully equipped with knowledge and skills translated into real-life situations.

Types of Training at Air Force Academy

FLYING TRAINING

So, you’ve decided to join the Flying Branch. Good on you! First, though, you’ll have to work your way through three stages of training: STAGE I, STAGE II, and STAGE III. Each step gradually takes you from fundamental to more complex levels of flying.

Before candidates take to the skies, they need to do ground training. It will include a theoretical and practical understanding of all the aircraft systems. You’ll need to complete a program in aviation medicine, which will prepare you for flying high in the sky. There will also be a de-sensitization program that helps you get air sickness in high altitudes with the help of Yoga. These will arm students with newfound confidence to handle any situation that comes your way while in the air.

Flying training is provided to trainee pilots from various modes, including National Defence Academy, National Cadet Corps, and in some cases, directly from their universities. Applicants other than NDA get their first screening at the Air Force Academy before going to the pre-flying training facility for 6 months. Those who pass training will then proceed to the Flying Training School for 24 weeks.

After 24 weeks of Stage I training, pilot trainees are trifurcated into streams for fighters, transport, and helicopters. They then undergo Stage II training for 24 weeks in their respective Flying Training Establishments. Stage- III involves commissioning trained candidates as Officers and their respective training. Ultimately, the candidates begin their operational flying at their assigned squadrons/ units.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL OFFICERS TRAINING

All the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Courses offer a unique and exciting career option for those who want to be involved in the safety of flight. ATCOTE conducts this training, and it revolves around international Civil Aviation Organization procedures. ATCOTE makes sure to include special military aviation requirements into the training syllabus.

During the BATCO course, candidates gets a fully state-of-the-art visual tower simulator in order to gain practical experience without ever being put in real danger.

GROUND DUTY OFFICERS TRAINING

Air Force Academy offers training for both Ground Duty (Non-technical) branches of the Indian Air Force. Any candidate who has interest in Administrative, Accounts, Logistics, Education, or Meteorology gets their training at the same institute of Air Force Academy.

The training curriculum is designed to teach students particular professional subjects, cutting-edge administrative skills, and rigorous military training. It will help prepare students for the demanding job ahead.

JOINT SERVICES TRAINING

Military training is all about unity. Unity of objective, sense of mission through common efforts and inter-branch camaraderie, and knowledge of other branches are all the major aspects of military training. And these all aspects are achieved during the initial period of joint training by making candidates of all units undergo common training on topics like General Administration, Management, Logistics, Engineering and Leadership covering generic matters. The initial phrase here is ‘initial phase of joint training.’

TRAINING FOR AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING BRANCHES

Ground Duty (Technical) Branch trainees receive 22 weeks of training at the Academy. It includes three months of general service training and military-specific training.
