Different Uniforms of the Indian Army that you must know

The Indian Army is not just a word, it’s a feeling. A feeling that every person wants to have but not anyone can. The feeling of wearing that uniform the first time is priceless and no money can buy it. And that’s the reason why the uniform of the Indian Army is so important for a soldier. 

In this article, we will share with you the different uniforms that the Indian Army has. 

Different Uniforms of the Indian Army 

1. General Duty 

General duty officers in the Indian Army get a very formal and classy look in the entire team. They have:

  • Different uniforms for winter and summer season. 
  • In summers, they get a uniform that has olive green shirt with same coo
  • The other name for this uniform is 5SD. 
  • In winters, the officer gets an olive green blazer with a peach shirt and a black tie along with a beret or a peak cap. 

2. 6 Alpha/ 6 Bravo 

A 6 Bravo / 6 Alpha dress is a mess dress for the Indian Army staff. 

  • The 6A /6B dress contains a white shirt and a black pant along with a ‘cummerbund’ from the regiment colours. 
  • The dress also has a white coat. 
  • And the 6B dress is a slightly different variant of 6A. 

3. Blue Patrol 

Blue Patrol dress is a very unique uniform which is also a dress code for any type of function and event in the Indian Army during winters.

  • The dress is green in colour and has a ‘Bandgala’ coat as well. 
  • It is also used as a mess dress by people. 
  • The dress has shoulder pips which have certain ranks on the coat. 
  • But, with armored corps, Blue Patrol also has a chain mail embodying the ranks on the shoulder.

4. Combat Uniforms

 The Combat Uniform is more specific to the civilians. It has:

  • a jungle camouflage pattern uniform in order to provide cover during any sudden combat and to disguise enemy is a new territory. 
  • Popular by the name ‘Jungle Dress’. 
  • Winters add a sweater and a jacket to the uniform. 
  • All the ranks are embellished on the shoulder but during the war, it is avoided. 
  • Civilians wear this dress on every Friday and in peace areas.

5. Smocks 

Smock is a very popular uniform in the Indian Army, as the one who wears it feels no less than a superhero. The dress:

  • Is only worn by someone with a highly prestigious and reputed post in the Indian Army.  For eg. Agitators and highly-qualified officers. 
  • In the winter season, paratroopers of the army wear Smocks. 

6. Dungarees

  • Dungarees are specifically meant for the Aviation Cops only.
  • The dress has only name tags and ranks that you will see along with the aircraft symbol. 

All the dress of the Indian Army are designed with different motive and has different meaning. In short, all the uniforms holds a special importance and only people wearing these uniforms will know the true feel and pride of having one. 

7. Ceremonial

This Indian Navy Uniform is designed specially for the military ceremonial events like Guard of Honor, Military Funeral and Wreath Laying. The uniform consists of Dress SD in the winter seasons and a half-sleeves shirt dress in summers. 

It also has a neck scarf, medals, cummerband and other decorations. 

8. Black

The “Men in Black” army uniform is that cool and badass dress that everyone wants but hard to get. The dress is only given to the officers, Armed Corps, the NSG and men with similar fields. In short, if you want this badass uniform, you have to prove your worth in your field.
