Indian Air Force Training Academies and Establishments
While the Indian Army made its establishment before the Indian Air Force, the latter got its establishment after the partition of India. Most of the establishments were made due to strategic planning by the country, keeping the major scenes of front war expected to be seen in the future.
The Indian Air Force came into existence on 8th October 1932 as the British Empire’s auxiliary air force. But when India got independence from the UK, the Royal Indian Army was kept and served as the Dominion of India. And after the year 1950, with the transition to Republic of the government, the removal of the prefix “Royal” took place.

The Indian Air Force academies are set up all over the country to train students who are willing to join the airforce. After clearing the written exam and the SSB selection and counselling procedure, the shortlisted candidates get into the Air Force training at one of the establishments. 1. Air Force Academy, Dundigal
AFA is one of the oldest and most prestigious training centers of the Air force of India. This institute also offers training for ground duty & technical officers with pilots. The center got its establishment in 1969 but got its functioning in 1971. AFA is located in Dundigal and is spread across 7000 acres of land. Moreover, the institute offers training for students of all streams and branches in one place.

2. Air Force Administrative College
AFAC is the oldest and most elite Air Force training institute in India. The main objective of the college is to nurture candidates with top-class skills and advanced training. Every student from AFAC is trained so that they must be capable of fulfilling their responsibilities independently and with expertise in all branches.
This institute has won laurels and many awards from all quarters. The college serves as the door to many opportunities in IAF, for example:
- Basic Air Staff Course: Officers (BASCO)
- Intermediate Air Staff Course: Officers (ISCO)
- Basic Professional Knowledge Course: Officers (BPKC)
- Advances Professional Knowledge Course: Officers (APKC)

3. Flying Instructor School
FIS institute of the Indian Air Force is the premium center for pilots to teach them advanced skills and make them professional flying instructors. Also, the training given at this school is focused on quality only. 4. Airmen Training School, Belgaum
The Airmen Training School, Belgaum, is the first step for all the ab-initio recruits, followed by a twelve-week Joint Phase Training. The training aims to provide work ethics, value systems, and military bearing to the recruits. And ATS trains more than 8800 ab-initio trainees in 4 batches every year.
The JBPT course involves General Service Training (GST) & General Service Knowledge (GSK), and they also focus on improving your languages, i.e., English, Hindi, and Computer Knowledge.
