If you want to become Fighter Pilot in Indian Air Force, you should know that there is a limited platform. To become a fighter pilot you need to join the Indian Air Force in Flying Branch There are basically two ways to join the Flying branch in Indian Air Force:
- After 12 Class
- After Graduation
Here we will discuss the available options to become a pilot in Indian Air Force after 12th class. Most of the students have their aim to join Air Force as a pilot and dream to fly the deadly fighter jets. Well, they have the golden opportunity after completing their 12th class. All the interested students have National Defense Academy (NDA) as the sole opportunity to join Indian Air Force as Pilot.
All the interested candidates have to appear for NDA Exam that is conducted twice every year. After school NDA is the only pathway to join the Indian Air Force as a Pilot.
About NDA Exam:
National Defense Academy is a government exam that is conducted by the UPSC twice a year. This exam is conducted to shortlist the students who are eager to join Indian Defense Forces after their 12th class.
About National Defense Academy, Pune:
The selected students undergo 4 years training at National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune. NDA is the prestigious defense training academy that has churned out countless trained officers from school or college students. The defense training school is highly renowned over the globe for its excellent education and remarkable discipline. It is the academy where the cadets of the Army, Navy and Air Force are collectively trained till their first three years. The three-year educational training is then followed by the per-commissioning training in their respective services.
Eligibility for NDA (10+2) Entry:
Educational Qualification: To apply for the NDA Exam, you must have done your 10+2 schooling with Physics and Maths.
Age Limit: You must be between 16 (1/2) to 19 years of age at the time of joining the National Defense Academy. The date range is always mentioned in the NDA Exam Notification.
Notification Dates: NDA Exam is conducted twice every year. NDA Exam Notification is released in December for NDA-I and May for NDA-II.
How To Apply for Indian Air Force Pilot Entry in NDA:
- To join Indian Air Force, you will be asked to choose the service preference during the NDA Form filling.
- You need to choose Indian Air Force as first priority.
- The highest scorer in NDA Exam is always given the IAF Pilot as service choice. So, it’s important to score maximum marks in the NDA exam.
- All the selected students are then called for interview depending upon their marks and service selection preference.
After you will get the shortlisted for Indian Air Force, you will be called for SSB at one of the four Air Force Selection Board i.e. Gandhi Nagar, Dehradun, Varanasi, Mysore.
The recommended candidate will undergo PABT test that is mandatory for every recommended candidate to get selected as a Pilot. You need to clear the PABT as you are given single chance throughout your life to clear the exam.
After clearing PABT, the candidates will undergo Medical exam followed by the final merit list. All those recommended candidates who make to the merit list will join Indian Air Force as Fighter Pilot.
