How to Join Indian Army as Officer in 2020

With nearly 1.3 million strong army personnel, Indian army is one of the strongest defence forces in the world. Every year, a large number of youngsters are called to join the prestigious Indian Army as young and energetic Officers. The defence aspirants will always look for the different options to join Indian army and serve their motherland as a pound officer.

Below are the different ways to join Indian army as Officer in 2020.

National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA):

NDA is the platform through which young and immature kids are transformed into mature officers who can die for their motherland and serve the country with pride.

Education Qualification: For Army wing of NDA, candidates need to be passed class 12th or equivalent exam appearing candidates can also apply.

Age Limit (NDA- I 2020): Candidates must not before 2nd July 2001 and not later than 1st July 2004.

Age Limit (NDA- II 2020): Candidates must not before 2nd January 2002 and not later than 1st January 2005.

Selection Procedure: The candidates are shortlisted via written exam, followed by SSB.

NOTE: Online application will start in the month of January 2020 (for NDA I) and June 2020 (for NDA II)

Combined Defence Service Examination (CDSE):

For those who want to join Indian Army after pursuing their graduation, CDSE is the best platform. It allows the candidates from technical as well as non-technical students to grab this golden opportunity. This option also allows Women to apply for the officer post in Indian Army.

Education Qualification: Those who have completed graduation degree or its equivalent from any recognized university can apply for the online application.

Age Limit (CDS- I 2020): Candidates must not before 2nd July 1995 and not later than 1st July 2000.

Age Limit (CDS- II 2020): Candidates must not before 2nd January 1996 and not later than 1st January 2001.

Selection Procedure: The candidates are shortlisted via written exam, followed by SSB.

10+2 Technical Entry Scheme (TES):

For those who have completed their schooling from science stream (Physics, Chemistry, and Maths) can join Indian Army through the technical entry scheme.
Education Qualification: The applicant must have a minimum aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in 12th class or its equivalent.

Type of Commission: Candidates undergo 4 years of rigorous training followed by the Permanent Commission.

Selection Procedure: The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of cut-off decided by the RTG DTE, followed by SSB.

University Entry Scheme (UES):

If you are pursuing our engineering degree, you have the opportunity to join Indian Army after B.Tech. The UES entry offers you the chance to apply during 3rd year and continue your training after your degree completion.

Education Qualification: Candidates who are studying in Pre-Final Year (PFY) with the streams mentioned by the recruitment department can apply for the UES entry.

Type of Commission: The candidates are given Short service or Permanent commission, depending upon the basis of notification released by the concerned authority.

Selection Procedure: The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of on-campus recruitment. The shortlisted candidates then undergo SSB.

Technical Graduates Course (TGC):

TGC vacancies are offered to the candidates who have completed their B.Tech or are undergoing the final year studies.

Education Qualification: BE / B Tech final appearing & degree holders in notified streams of Engineers are eligible to apply for this entry.

Type of Commission: Candidates undergo 1 years of vigorous training at IMA (Indian Military Academy) followed by the Permanent Commission.

Selection Procedure: The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of cut-off decided by the RTG DTE, followed by SSB.

Short Service Commission (Technical) Entry:

SSC vacancies are offered to the candidates who have completed their B.Tech or are undergoing the final year studies.

Education Qualification: BE / B Tech final appearing & degree holders in notified streams of Engineers are eligible to apply for this entry.

Type of Commission: Candidates undergo 1 years of vigorous training at OTA (Officer Training Academy) followed by Short Service Commission.

Selection Procedure: The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of cut-off decided by the RTG DTE, followed by SSB.
