Finally, the day has arrived on 9th June when the young cadets of Indian Military Academy will take the oath to serve the motherland, cross the “Antim Pag” and will become an Indian Army Officer. The Indian Military Passing Out parade 2018 was held today where total 457 Cadets were passed out into a Commissioned Officers of Indian Army. This year, a total of 383 cadets are from India while 74 cadets are from other countries.
About IMA Passing Out Parade 2018:
On 9th June 2018, all the cadets will be granted Permanent Commission once they pass out from the IMA. Among the cadets, there are 142 Regular cadets who joined the Indian Military Academy through CDS Exam and 125 Cadets were from Technical Graduate Course. On the special day of IMA POP 2018, Nepalese Army Chief General Rajendra Chhetri will be the Chief Guest. It has been a tradition to call the Army Chief of SAARC Countries to strengthen their bonding. In IMA POP 2017, Bangladesh Army Chief was invited to review the Passing Out Parade. Nepalese Army Chief General Rajendra Chhetri will also present the Sword of Honor to the outstanding cadet of the training along with other honors and medals.
As a preparation for IMA POP 2018, the team of cadets practiced on 7th of June 2018 which was reviewed by the Indian Military Academy Commandant Lt Gen S.K. Jha. Prior to this, the Award Ceremony was also held at the IMA where the cadets were presented numerous awards based on their academics and extra-curricular activities within the Academy.
About Indian Military Academy:
Indian Military Academy (IMA) was established on 1st of October 1932 with the motto of “Valor and Wisdom”. The first Commandant of IMA was Lieutenant General Manvendra Singh, AVSM, VSM. The trainees were called as Gentlemen Cadets (GC) during their training period and once they are out from the Academy, they are commissioned as a Permanent Officer in the Indian Army.
During the struggle of Independence, Indian Government transferred the 206-acre campus of land from Indian Railway’s Railway Staff College to set up the Indian Military Academy and train the young and energetic cadets to lead the Army of the country.
Indian Military Academy has delivered many brave sons who received Param Veer Chakra. The Param Veer Chakra awardees of IMA are Major Somnath Sharma, Posthumous; Captain Gurbachan Singh Salaria, Posthumous; Lieutenant Colonel Hoshiar Singh; 2nd Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, Posthumous; Captain Vikram Batra, Posthumous and Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Posthumous.
