India celebrated its 70th Republic Day on 26th of January 2019. The day has huge importance in Indian history as the Indian constitution was introduced in the country. Every year,  a huge event is organized on the Rajpath that witness the tableaux of various states. Along with that, contingents of various defense forces also deliver their Salute to the President of India.

Below is the Republic Day 2019 highlights that you should know from knowledge as well as exam perspective.

Who is the Chief Guest on 26 January 2019?

On the 70th Republic Day Parade, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was invited as the Chief guest on 26th January 2019. Ramaphosa was on a two-day visit to India along with the First Lady Dr. Tshepo Motsepe.

Rashtriya Bal Puraskar [New Format of National Bravery Awards]

From 2019, the Indian government introduced a new format of honoring children’s in different categories. The awards were presented by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, to 26 children for their extraordinary bravery and innovative skills. For Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, a total of 783 applications were received out of which 26 children were selected.

Museum for Indian Army and Subhash Chandra Bose:

On the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated fascinating museums for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Indian Army. The museum of Subhash Chandra Bose has a wooden chair and the sword used by Netaji. Alongside the Indian Army Museum encompasses the medals, badges, uniforms to aware the people about the Indian National Army.

‘Yaad-e-Jallian’ Museum:

To recall the memories of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Yaad-e-Jallian’ museum. The Museum showcase the history of 1919’s Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. It also encompasses the role of Indian soldiers during the World War-I. Apart from the historical knowledge, there are various historical assets like paintings, videos, animations, clippings, and multimedia, which is also showcased in this museum.

Republic Day Police Medals to 855 Police Personnel:

On the day of 70th Republic Day, about 855 police personnel were awarded various medals. Out of them, 146 personnel were awarded the “Police Medals of Gallantry”, 74 personnel were honored with President’s Police Medal and 832 personnel were honored with the “Police Medal for Meritorious Service”.

Major Khushboo Kanwar Led all-women Assam Rifles contingent:

In the 70th Republic Day Parade at Rajpath, the all-women contingent will comprise of Mahila Riflemen, Mahila JCO’s, led by the brave leader Major Khushboo Kanwar. Major Khushboo Kanwar is the daughter of a bus conductor and a mother herself. She was born in Jaipur to a Shekhawat family. She completed her MBA and joined Indian Army in 2012 as an ASC Officer and was joined 10 Sect Assam Rifles. Major Khushboo is currently posted in Manipur.

Captain Shikha Surabhi– First Lady Officer to be the Part of Daredevil Team:

Another name that becomes popular on the 70th Republic Day was Captain Shikha Surabhi. She becomes the first lady to be the part of Daredevil Bike Rider team. The ‘Daredevils’ encompass 136 Jawans, 2 Male officers, and 34 motorcycles. Studied in Hindi Medium, she participated in 2 National level sports that gave her the opportunity to join Indian Army and selected as an Officer. She volunteered to join the Daredevils and was selected after a month training at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

Terrorist-Turned Soldier Lance Naik Wani gets Ashok Chakra:

Lance Naik Wani become the first Kashmiri to be honored with the Ashok Chakra. On the Republic day, President Ram Nath Kovind presented the award to Wani’s wife Mahajabeen. Wani joined the Army’s 162 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) and was martyred on 25th of November 2018 after he participated in the counter-terrorist operation.

So in many aspects the Republic Day 2019 marked huge importance. All in all, there were numerous names that become famous and motivation for others who always find excuses for their defeat.
