Sainik School offers quality education to the children to develop qualities of body, mind, and character, which will enable the young boys to become good and responsible citizens and eventually be a feeder to the National Defence Academy. The motive of the school is to build future leaders for the nation. Sainik School focuses on all over development so that they can do something constructive for society. About Sainik Schools

There are about 33 Sainik schools in the country; Sainik Schools are members of the All India Public Schools Conference. They offer a common curriculum and are affiliated with the CBSE, New Delhi. They develop a wholesome personality so that child can fit for NDA. The medium of instruction is English. Apart from academic excellence, the students are encouraged to improve their creativity through co-curricular activities and socially useful work. They are systematically introduced to all major games and given compulsory NCC training up to class-XI.

Sainik School Fees Structure

The fee for a student per academic year is around Rs 1, 27,500.

Sainik School Scholarship

  • Cadets studying in Sainik Schools are eligible for State Government scholarships based on their parent’s income. Central Government also provides scholarship shares at varying rates to those receiving State Government scholarships.
  • Children of serving defense personnel and ex-servicemen admitted on defense quota are granted scholarships by the Ministry of Defence.
  • Under a new scheme, all boys studying in Sainik Schools receive about Rs.14,000/- per year as a subsidy from the MoD.
  • In some schools where amounts of scholarships are liberal, boys are studying by paying a very nominal amount.

Sainik School Admission Process

The entrance exam comprises Math’s, GK (Sc & SST), Language and Intelligence for Class VI; Math’s, Intelligence, English General Science and Social Studies for Class IX, followed by Interview and medical examination. You can get admission to Sainik School in the 6th or 9th standard based on the entrance exam and medical examination.

Note: Girl candidates are now eligible for admission to Class VI in all 33 Sainik Schools.

Sainik School Age limit

For girls and boys, taking admission in the 6th standard is 10-12 yrs of age as admission is being sought on 31 March in the year. 

For girls and boys, taking admission in the 9th standard is 13-15 yrs as on 31 March in the year admission is being sought. Admission to Class IX is not open for girls.

Sainik School Reservation Policy

  • 67% of the seats are reserved for candidates domiciled in the State/ UT where the Sainik School is located.
  • 33% of the seats are reserved for candidates from the Other States and Union Territories (UT).
  • Within each Category of Home State/ UT and Other States/ UT quota, seats will be reserved on the following lines:
  •  a) 15% of the seats are reserved for the category Scheduled Caste (SC),
  •  b) 7.5% for the category Scheduled Tribe (ST), and
  •  c) 27% for the category Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non Creamy layer (OBC-NCL) as per the central list.

Thus, 49.50% of the seats in Sainik School are reserved on the above-mentioned lines.

Out of the balance, 50.50% of the seats in the Home State/ UT and Other States/ UT quota, 25% of the seats are reserved for the wards of defense personnel and ex-servicemen.

In the “Other States/ UT” quota, seats will be allotted in each category as per merit, subject to a maximum limit of 25% of vacancies in the category for any State or Union Territory.

In Class VI of each Sainik School, 10% of the total vacancies or 10 seats, whichever is more, are reserved for girls.
