How to Join National Defence Academy


Every year, UPSC conducts NDA Exam twice. In this exam, the candidates who have completed or are appearing their 12th standard can apply. There are a total of 370 vacancies per course of NDA. The 370 seats are distributed among Indian Army (208 Seats), Indian Navy (42 Seats) and Indian Air Force (70 Seats).

The notification for NDA Exam is released in the month of June and December on the official website of UPSC.

How to Join Indian Army 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme


Similar to NDA, the 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme is released twice every year. This entry is specially released for the defence aspirants who have completed their 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. In each course, a total of 90 seats is notified by the Indian Army that can vary depending upon the demand. The 10+2 TES Entry is notified by DG Rtg AG’s branch IHQ of MOD(Army) in May/Jun & Oct/Nov. The notification can be seen on the official website of Indian Army.

Can I join Indian Army after 12th with PCB?

Response: If you have chosen the Biology as an optional during the studies, you can apply for NDA as well as 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme. You can take Biology as optional and consider Mathematics as your Core subject.

Can I join Indian Army after 12th commerce?

Response: All the commerce candidates can appear for NDA Exam, but they are not eligible to get selected as an Officer in Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. They can appear the NDA Exam and join Indian Army as Officer, but Navy and Air Force don’t allow 12th Commerce candidates.

Can I join NDA with 12th Arts?

Response: Yes, but you can only join Indian Army as Officer. The candidate looking to Join Indian Navy or Air Force needs to have Science background with Mathematics as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.

Is it compulsory to have Maths as a subject in NDA?

Response: No! Before applying for NDA Exam, all the aspirants must note that to Join Indian Navy, Air Force, Mathematics along with Physics and Chemistry are the compulsory subjects. But if you don’t have Maths Subject, you can apply for Indian Army and Join National Defence Academy, Pune to become Indian Army Officer.

How can girls join in Indian Army after 12th?

Response: There is no direct opportunity for girls to join Indian Army after 12th. Instead, they can Join Indian Army after completing their graduation through CDS Entry. They can even join Indian Air Force and Navy but their graduation is compulsory for all the entries.
