Major Mohit Sharma is one of the brave-hearted soldiers of India who laid his life to protect the motherland from infiltration. On 21st March 2009, he was martyred while busting the terrorists in Kashmir. Para Commando Mohit made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland and hence he was awarded Ashok Chakra. He was awarded for Sena Medal during his first posting to Kashmir. He is one of the brave soldiers who will always be recalled with their bravery stories.

Major Mohit Sharma Biography
Mohit Sharma was born on 13th January 1978 in Rohtak, Haryana. Being the second child of his parents, he was commonly called “Chintu” His proud parents were Mr. Rajendra Prasad Sharma and Mrs. Sushila Sharma.
Since childhood, he was fascinated to join Indian Army. During his schooling, he attended different schools and was finally passed out from DPS Ghaziabad in 1995. At the time of completing 12th standard, he also attended the NDA Exam. Simultaneously, he also took admission in Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Maharashtra.

But his passion took him to join the prestigious National Defense Academy. As he successfully cleared the SSB and was medically fit, he joined NDA, Khadakwasla Pune in 1995 and started his professional training.
Life of Mohit Sharma in NDA & IMA
He joined National Defence Academy in 1995 and was allotted to India Squadron. During his 3 years of NDA training, he showed his excellence in versatile fields including games and extra-curricular activities.
- He was guided horse riding by Col. Bhawani Singh and was came out as the champion of Horse Riding. He had a favourite horse named “Indira”.
- He was the champion in Boxing under feather weight category.
- He was also termed as one of the best swimmers of the NDA Batch.
Mohit’s hunger for excellence continued to IMA where he was appointed as the Battalion Cadet Adjutant (BCA). As an IMA cadet, he got a chance to meet Shri K.R. Narayanan (then President) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
On 11th of December 1999, he was finally commissioned in the Indian Army and was posted in 5 Madras. After his first posting in Hyderabad, he served in 38 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) and 1 PARA (SF).
Life of Mohit Sharma as a Para Commando
On the 3rd year of his Military carrier, he joined the Para Special Forces. Since his entry in Military, he wanted to become a Para Commando and was successful in June 2003. After he becomes Para Commando Mohit, he was posted in Kashmir. During his Kashmir tenure, he was awarded Sena Medal in 2004. After completing his Kashmir posting he was appointed as the Instructor at Commando Wing, Belgaum, where he served for two years (Jan 2005 to Dec 2006).
His destiny took him back to Kashmir in October 2008 where he laid his life and showed his bravery and become a martyr on 21st March 2009.

About Kupwara Operation of 21st March 2009:
On 21st of March, Major Mohit Sharma was leading a team of Bravo Assault Team in Kupwara district of Kashmir. The team was informed about some sort of infiltration in the Haphruda forest. As Major Mohit approached the forest, he observed suspicious activities, but the terrorists too witnessed the presence of Major Mohit and his team. This made the terrorists to start firing on Major Mohit’s team. During the exchange of firing, four of his commandos were injured out of which Mohit managed to recover two and brought under safe area.
Later, Mohit started the exchange of fire again and threw a grenade at the terrorist that killed two of them. But during this, he was hit by a bullet right into his chest. But he continued to direct his commandos and killed two more terrorists. But with the passage of fighting, he was injured severely and finally attained martyrdom for the motherland.

A few of you would either know that Major Mohit was survived by his wife, Major Rishima Sharma. Rishima Sharma is also a commissioned Indian Army officer who is continuing the legacy of Major Mohit and serving the motherland with all her will.
