Every soldier has a dream to earn stars and become a commissioned officer in the Indian Armed Forces. Many defense aspirates join Indian Navy as Seaman as they are not eligible to apply for Officer-level entries. However Indian Navy offers opportunities to such soldiers to showcase their Officer Like Qualities and earn the stars. Indian Navy release HET (Higher Education Test) for non-commissioned soldiers to become a permanent commissioned officer in the Indian Navy.
Every year, HET Entry is released in April and May. You need to apply through the offline Application form under your Commanding Officer.
Indian Navy HET Entry Eligibility
- Indian Navy Sailor should not have red ink entry throughout their service
- You should hold the rank of Leading Seaman
- You can apply for HET Entry after a minimum 7 years of service
- Sailor should have the record of “Very Good” throughout the service
HET Entry Selection Process:
Graduate candidates with mathematics backgrounds are directly called for the SSB Interview. Whereas other graduate candidates must pass the HET exam to attend the SSB and become an Officer in the Indian Navy.
- Indian Navy HET Exam is conducted at Command level.
- HET is conducted online with objective type questions.
- Exam duration is 2 hours.
- HET Exam is framed by the Education Officer of Indian Navy.
- Syllabus: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English and GK.

All soldiers who clear the HET Written-test undergoes the Preliminary Selection Board (PSB). Under PSB, a Personal Interview is conducted to screen the candidates for SSB. Once you qualify for the PSB, you are called for SSB Interview.
Recommended candidates undergo six months of training at Ezhimala, Kerala. Post-training, they are clear given Administrative responsibilities. They can be promoted to the rank of Captain.

I am an electrical sailor holding the rank of LEMR, wants to know that I have completed Bachelor of Computer Application with Mathematics as one of my subject in first two semester.
So, do I need to give the HET test or am eligible for direct SSB interview.
