What is Sainik School Admission Procedure in India?

Sainik schools are those army schools that provide Public School Education and are also resident schools for boys with a run-over military bias. Like other schools, Sainik Schools are also affiliated with the CBSE Board (Central Board of Secondary Education). These schools are funded by State and Central funding. But now, girl candidates can also take part in the Sainik schools.

Boys who are willing to serve their nation in future apply for Sainik Schools, where students are groomed as little soldiers turning into Soldiers and Majors in future. And in today’s section, we will share with you how you can be admitted to the Sainik School in India. 

What Are Sainik Schools in India? 

Sainik School laid its foundation in the year 1961 with the objective of preparing boys physically, academically and mentally for the National Defense Academy. Along with offering quality education, these schools focus on providing skills and qualities like leadership and intellectual traits and developing them in mind, body and overall attitude. 

What is the Procedure to Take Admission to Sainik School in India?

Students can only take admission to the Sainik School through the annual common admission test for the new academic session. There are more than 33 Sainik Schools in India to which you can get admission. The admission test comprises various sections, including 

  • Maths, GK (Science and SST), Language and Intelligence for Class VI.
  • and Intelligence, Maths, English, Social Studies and Science for Class XI.   

1. The form is available in October every year in all the schools. Students can collect the admission form of their respective schools from the campus itself. You can also apply online by filling out the application at the link. 

3. Students must fill out the admission form and appear for the entrance test, which they must clear. The exam is held in January for the coming academic session. 

3. The candidate has to score more than 50% to get into the merit list. But the final list will depict the names of students selected for further rounds, i.e. the medical test and final interview. 

4. The basis of selection for students of classes VI and IX is the merit list of entrance exams along with the interview. And students of class XI get admission based on their score in X Board Examination. 

5. The final results of the selected students are available at the school’s premises on the notice board only. Selected students must provide the necessary documents and fees to complete the admission process. 

Important Things To Note 

  • Students taking admission in Class VI should come between the age group 10-12 years on March 31st in the admission year. 
  • Boys seeking selection for Class IX must come between 13-15 years of age as of March 31st in the admission year. 
  • Girls cannot apply for the Class IX admission process. 

The reservation policy for the students seeking admission in the Sainik Schools is given below:

  • 67% seats to the students located in the same State/UT as Sainik School. 
  • 33% seats for the candidates from different UT and States.

Within the category of every Home State/UT, seats are reserved as follows: 

  • 15% for the Scheduled Caste (SC)
  • 7.5 % for the Scheduled Tribe
  • And 27% for the OBC (Other Backward Caste). 

Apart from the reservation as mentioned above of 49.90%, the remaining ones, which is 50.50% is further divided as: 

  • 25% for the wards of defense personnel and ex-serviceman. 
  • And in other states/UT, seats are given to each category.
