Inspiring Story of Havildar Om Prakash Mitharwal Who Bagged 2 CWG Medals

Soon after Deepak Lather made India, as well as Indian Army proud, another Indian Army soldier Havildar Om Mitharwal, made us proud after he bagged 2 bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games 2018. Om Mitharwal won 2 bronze medals in 50 m Air Pistol and 10 m Air Pistol event.

About Om Prakash Mitharwal:

Om Mitharwal was born on 15th of August 1995 in the small village of Rajasthan. He joined Indian Army to financially support his family and serve the motherland. But till he undergone the Indian Army training, he doesn’t have any idea of Shooting. During his training, he finds interest in shooting and approached his seniors for guidance. His seniors supported him and since then he started his practice for the shooting events.

No Interest in Shooting Before 2014: Om Prakash Mitharwal revealed that before he was shortlisted for the Indian Army, he was having no idea about the shooting. But during the training period, he learned all the shooting skills as a quick learner. He started collecting the information about the shooting and approached his seniors.

He Played 4 Internationals: After he started preparing for the shooting, he participated in 4 international sports events and has bagged 1 Gold and 1 Bronze medal. However, in 3 National Sports events, he has earned 12 medals.

He was Shooting World Cup Gold Medallist: In ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, Om Mitharwal bagged a Gold medal in 10 meter Air Pistol Mix Event.

  • Om Prakash Mitharwal hails from Sihodi, Rajasthan.
  • To serve the country, he joined Indian Army in 2014. He is currently posted in Mhow, near Indore.
  • In 2017 he was married to Mrs. Anju. Currently, his wife is pursuing the 2nd year of her graduation.
  • His father Mr. Sajjan Singh, mother Mrs. Shanti Devi, younger brother Lokesh and wife Anju lives in the village.

In Commonwealth Games 2018, Om Mitharwal won 2 Bronze medals, one in 50 Meter Air Pistol Mens Final Event and second in 10 Meter Air Pistol.
