List of SSB Centers with Boards and Training Center for Indian Army

Every year, numerous young aspirants apply for Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission in Indian Army. For selection as a commissioned officer, you need to undergo 5-days SSB process at the SSB Center. There is a list of SSB Centers for Indian Army where selected candidates are examined and are recommended to join as a commissioned Officer.

What is SSB?

For most of you, who are passionate to join Indian Defence Forces, must know what actually SSB is. SSB Full Form is Service Selection Board (SSB). It is the boards where you stay for 5 days and are thoroughly examined. There are different tests that include SSB Screening test, Psychology Test, Personal Interview and GTO Tasks. After all these examinations, the candidates are announced the results after their formal Conference.

All the candidates who are recommended in SSB undergo the medical examination that may vary depending on their Medical Centre allotment. Once the recommended candidates successfully undergo medicals they are shortlisted on the basis of final merit list. Those who are selected in the merit list are called to join the Indian Army Training Academies for training.

SSB Centers for Indian Army:

Selection Centre East (SCE) Allahabad:

Situated in Uttar Pradesh, Selection Center East, Allahabad was raised in the year 1957 with the core motto to recommended eligible candidates on the basis of Psychology Test, Group Tasks, Personal Interview and Group Discussions. At Selection Centre East Allahabad, there are total 5 boards which are raised to select the eligible candidates for Indian Army. Five Service Selection boards include:

  • 11 SSB
  • 14 SSB
  • 18 SSB
  • 19 SSB
  • 34 SSB

Selection Center Central (SCC) Bhopal:

SSB Bhopal, situated in Madhya Pradesh, was established in 1975. The SSB Centre Bhopal was actually built by relocating 20 SSB and 33 SSB which were earlier based at Jabalpur. For the selection of potential candidates to join Indian Army, there are three Boards at SSB Bhopal.

  • 20 SSB
  • 21 SSB
  • 22 SSB

Selection Center South (SCS) Bangalore:

Situated in Karnataka, SSB Bangalore was raised in 1949 with the initial inclusion of two SSB Boards. Later other SSB Boards were added time to time to build the strength of the team to select the potential candidates who can serve the country as a commissioned officer. For Indian Army, there are two SSB Boards in Bangalore:

  • 17 SSB
  • 24 SSB

Selection Centre North (SCN), Kapurthala:

Situated in Punjab, SSB Kapurthala is the recent and latest SSB Centre which has been raised by the Indian Army to select the candidates for Officer Entries. The SSB Centre Kapurthala was raised in 2015 and witnessed the first batch for selection in April 2016. There are two SSB Boards in Kapurthala:

  • 31 SSB
  • 32 SSB

Training Centers/Institutes for Indian Army:

  • National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakwasla, Pune (MH): It offers training for young and unmarried cadets who have cleared NDA Exam after clearing their 12th Class. All the candidates under NDA are granted Permanent Commission.
  • Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun (U.K): IMA Dehradun is made for the cadets who will be granted Permanent Commission in Indian Army. At IMA Dehradun, only male cadets are trained for 1 year.
  • Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai (TN): The OTA Chennai is Indian Army training Academy which offers Short Service Commission to both Male & Female cadets.
  • Officers Training Academy (OTA) Gaya (BH): OTA Gaya is is the latest Indian Army Training Academy where cadets of TES & SCO Male Course are trained and are later granted Permanent Commission.
